About
My friend Darrell Williams wrote a short story. A very short story. I shot my mouth off about turning it into a film. With the help of some old friends and some new friends in my home town of Portland, Oregon we did it.
The film explores the complexity of relationships, the notion of truth, abuse, codependency and the strengths and liabilities of the family structure and generational resonances and patterns. In short a comedy.
In an attempt to breaking away from the baggage of viewer perceptions of film and video my idea was to shoot it with a still camera like Chris Marker had done in his famous short, La Jetee. I originally was going to us my trusty old Nikon F. Really old school. But as the production approached it became clear that it would be much wiser to use a modern full frame digital still camera. Basically I believe a viewer perceives and emotionally connects with a photograph in a much different way than to film or video… I wanted to exploit the strengths of both mediums.
